3/C Firefighting Practicum

Course Description

Second component of training for Basic and Advanced Firefighting certification (Table A-VI-3). Instruction in fire behavior, fire attacks, personal protective equipment and fire fighting equipment on ship. Practical training at the Barnstable training site.

Entrance Requirements

Advanced Fire Fighting (AFF) is available to any student who has completed Basic Fire Fighting.

Learning Objectives

Other Objectives

  1. Learns the basics of fire behavior.
  2. Learns the principles of fire attack.
  3. Learns the importance of PPE in fire fighting.
  4. Reviews the basic firefighting equipment available onboard the TS Kennedy.
  5. Demonstrates the proper donning of SCBA, including changing bottles.
  6. Participates in extinguishing an interior Class A fire using standard hose techniques.
  7. Demonstrates use of low-velocity fog to indirectly attack an interior fire.
  8. Participates in extinguishing an interior galley grease fire using fixed and portable extinguishers, while demonstrating knowledge of sources of ignition.
