Condition Behavior Standard

On board a ship, in an course, or in a laboratory,

the candidate simulates using pyrotechnic distress signals.


BOTH The assessment is for both PSC and PSC-Limited.

The candidate simulates the use of:

  1. Parachute flares, including;

    a. the proper time to use them; and

    b. characteristics to consider when launching them;

  2. Hand held flares, including;

    a. the proper time to use them; and b. characteristics to consider when activating them; and

  3. Orange smoke, including;

    a. the proper time to use it;

    b. characteristics to consider when activating it; and

    c. its use during a helicopter rescue.
