Respond to engine room alarms

Condition

Aboard ship or in a suitable engine room simulator, given appropriate alarms.

Performance requirement

Behavior Standard
The student will: During assessment, the student shall, at a minimum:

Monitor the simulated plant

Respond to alarms such as:

  • high or low boiler water level
  • high or low steam pressure
  • low vacuum
  • etc

For each alarm that occurs:

  • acknowledge the alarm
  • confirm alarm condition
  • assess cause of alarm condition
  • take corrective action
