Operate a survival craft engine

SCRB-X2.1 Methods of starting and operating a survival craft engine and its accessories together with the use of the fire extinguisher provided

Condition Behavior Standard

In a lifeboat equipped with an inboard engine,

the candidate starts and operates the lifeboat engine.


PSC

The assessment is only for an endorsement as PSC. Mariners holding endorsements as PSC-Limited who wish to increase the scope of the endorsement to PSC should complete these assessments.

The candidate ensures that:

  1. The oil and cooling water levels are in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations;
  2. Actions taken to start the engine are in accordance with the operator’s manual for the type of engine, hand crank, electric, or hydraulic; and
  3. The engine is properly operated in forward, neutral, and reverse gears.

MMA Method

In order to satisfy NVIC 04-14 Task 2.1.A , MMA students must:

  • Pass MMA Course LB‑0201 STCW Lifeboatman Qualifications
  • Successfully complete MMA Assessment SCRB-3 Start and operate survival craft engine
