On a vessel of at least 1,000 HP, or in a laboratory or workshop.

Performance requirement

Behavior Standard
The student will: During assessment, the student shall, at a minimum:

Secure and Lock-out the end suction centrifugal pump

Disassemble the pump

follow disassembly procedure in the laboratory manual

Inspect all parts for wear and deterioration

Check the following:

  • packing, or seals
  • gasket
  • impeller wear
  • shaft bearings

Repair centrifugal pump

replace shaft packing according to procedure in the laboratory manual

replace or repair other parts as necessary to bring pump to manufacturer’s specifications

Reassemble centrifugal pump

Follow procedure in laboratory manual

Adjust packing, seals and gaskets as necessary

Test centrifugal pump

Operate under load and inspect for abnormalities
