Condition Behavior Standard

When hearing the command in English, “Steady as She Goes”

the candidate notes the heading of the vessel, stops any swing of the ship, and steers in the direction noted when the command was given.

The candidate:

  1. Repeats the order;
  2. Notes the heading when the command was given;
  3. Immediately applies counter rudder to stop any swing of the ship;
  4. Steers the heading noted; and
  5. States:“Steady, heading ...”
