The assessment applies to all RFPEW endorsements.

The candidate:
- Checks plant’s operational status;
- Checks compressor suction and discharge pressures and temperatures;
- Checks compressor-oil level;
- Checks compressor-oil pressure and control-oil pressures;
- Checks receiver level;
- Checks liquid-line sight glass condition;
- Checks related cooling water supply strainers and filters, and cleans or blows down same when necessary;
- For refrigeration plants, checks refrigerated box temperatures and condition of the evaporator coils and drain for icing;
- For refrigeration plants, notes the condition of the box door gaskets and operation of circulating fans;
- For air conditioning plants, checks return and supply air temperatures;
- Checks condenser sea-water inlet and outlet temperatures;
- For air conditioning plants, checks chilled-water pump suction and discharge pressures, if applicable;
- For air conditioning plants, checks chilled-water inlet and outlet temperatures, if applicable;
- For air conditioning plants, checks chilled-water expansion-tank level, if applicable;
- Notifies the watch engineer of any unusual or unsafe conditions; and
- Takes proper action to prevent safety and pollution violations.
