| On a gas turbine vessel, on a simulator, or in a laboratory, | the candidate monitors the electrical generating plant.
 Note 4
Not performing this task will limit the candidate’s endorsement to motor vessels and/or steam vessels.
 | The candidate:
Checks plant’s operational status;Checks gas turbine generator rpm;Checks gas turbine generator frequency;Checks gas turbine generator output voltage;Checks gas turbine generator output amperage;Checks gas turbine generator kilowatt output;Checks gas turbine generator kilovolt-amp reactive output or power factor, as appropriate;Checks gas turbine generator bearings’ temperature and oil flow;Checks governor, turbine/reduction gear lube-oil sump levels;Checks the physical condition of pipes, tubing, and hoses for wear or leaks;Observes gas turbine lube-oil and cooling-water temperatures and pressures;Observes gas turbine air intake and exhaust temperatures and pressures, including air-intake filter pressure drop, as appropriate;Checks start air pressureReads fuel-oil meter and day-tank levels;Checks for any unusual conditions or noises;Notifies the watch engineer of any unusual or unsafe conditions; andTakes proper action to prevent safety and pollution violations. |
