Secure gas turbine operation

Condition Behavior Standard

On a gas turbine vessel of at least 1,000 HP or simulator, or in a laboratory,

the candidate assists in securing a main gas turbine.


Note 4 A candidate who does not perform this task will receive an endorsement that is not valid for gas-turbine propelled vessels.

The candidate performs the following for a normal stop sequence:

  1. Ensures that the throttle at the Command Platform is in the “idle” position;

  2. Initiates “Normal Shutdown” sequence from the Command Platform;

  3. After the recommended Cool Down period, ensures the following:

    a. Main fuel stop valves are closed;

    b. Clutch (if equipped) is disengaged;

    c. Upon shaft rotation stop, engage jacking gear; and

    d. Module cooling system operative; and

    e. Inspects gas turbine and enclosure for damage and/or fire.
