Condition Behavior Standard

On board ship or in a laboratory, during a berthing operation,

the candidate demonstrates the proper handling a heaving line.

The candidate:

  1. Inspects the heaving line for damage, wear and tear, knots, and tangling before using;
  2. Untangles a heaving line that has been knotted and tangled; and
  3. Coils and heaves a heaving line during mooring operations.
