ABD Task 5.3.B

Describe risks of enclosed spaces and safety procedures

In order to satisfy NVIC 14-14 Task 5.3.B , MMA students must:

Apply occupational health and safety precautions	ABD-C2.1 Working knowledge of safe working practices and personal shipboard safety, including working in enclosed spaces

On board ship or in a laboratory, when questioned by a Qualified Assessor,	the candidate describes possible scenarios that could occur during an enclosed space and the dangers involved in an enclosed space entry.	The candidate’s description includes: Workers being overcome by fumes and lack of oxygen; Rescuers not using proper safety equipment and being overcome by the hazard; and Stand-by personnel not being trained in their duties and what they may do that would be a hazard to themselves and others while trying to effect a rescue without proper equipment (SCBA’s, communications, etc).
