Marlinspike seamanship - knots II

Condition

On board ship or in a laboratory.

Performance requirement

Behavior Standard
The student will: During assessment, the student shall, at a minimum:

demonstrate marlinspike seamanship skills by tying various knots.

tie six knots selected by the instructor from the list below within 15 minutes:

  • Carrick bend;
  • Rolling hitch;
  • Stopper hitch;
  • French bowline;
  • Stage hitch;
  • Running bowline;
  • Bowline on a bight;
  • Fisherman’s bend;
  • Timber hitch;
  • Cat’s paw;
  • Figure eight;
  • Barrel hitch;
  • Round turn and two half hitches; and
  • Double becket bend.


Note: This assessment supports KUP ABD-C1.2, and is assessed in MT-2231 Basic Seamanship.
