Update 1/5/2000

Two and a Wake Up!

The loading and the drills continued today as the cadets and crew prepare for sea on Saturday. Lifeboat drills and abandon ship drills filled up most of the afternoon... as everyone got used to the new routines of life aboard ship. Although the first few days revealed some anxiety and trepidation, no doubt caused by the quick separation from home following the holidays... along with the unfamiliar surroundings of the ship, everyone aboard is now looking forward to starting the trip on Saturday. Even the freshmen and the new members of Chartwells (the Academy food service company) are excited about beginning the adventure and crossing the mighty Atlantic Ocean.

The plan for the next few days has the 1/c and 2/c with liberty each afternoon. The Freshmen and Sophomores will have some time off tomorrow and Friday to pick up the list of last minute things they forgot to bring from home. All cadets not actually on watch will have dockside liberty on Saturday morning to go ashore and visit with friends and family. All hands must be aboard ship not later than 0800 for final muster. The Academy Dining Hall will be open from 0700 until the ship sails at 0955, serving complimentary coffee, donuts, and juice.
