On a vessel or on shore, given a standard marine sextant, a clear or simulated horizon, a clear or partly cloudy sky, |
the candidate measures the altitude of the sun as it transits the vessel’s meridian. Note 1 The assessment is not required for an endorsement that will be limited to near coastal waters. |
The candidate’s altitude is within ±1.0 minutes of arc, after correction for index error, of the assessor’s solution measured at meridian passage. |
MMA Method
In order to satisfy NVIC 12-14 Task 1.1.D , MMA students must:
- Successfully complete MMA Assessment OICNW-1-1D Measure the altitude of the sun at meridian passage (local apparent noon)
