On an operational ARPA that meet the standards of 33 CFR 164.38 (or an ARPA simulator that meets applicable national and international performance standards for ARPA).

During assessment, the student shall, at a minimum: |

Set up and maintain the ARPA display.
|
Within three minutes,
- Turn the power on;
- Initialize performance monitor;
- Note error messages;
- Switch from standby to on;
- Selecte the appropriate scale;
- Adjust the gain control so that targets and sea return appeared;
- Adjust the tune control (if the unit is not self tuning);
- Adjust the brilliance control;
- Adjust the sea clutter and rain clutter controls to suppress the rain and sea clutter without losing targets.
- Select north-up stabilized, relative motion display.
- Select proper gyro course and speed input.
- Select sea-stabilized mode.
