On Monday, 20 December, 1999 at dawn, the Empire State arrived at Massachusetts Maritime Academy from its usual berth in the Bronx . Captain Tom Bushy, Chief Engineer Bill Butler and their crew of staff and cadet volunteers had a quiet and uneventful voyage and gently slipped the ship into her temporary home on the face of the MMA pier, in the Cape Cod Canal. Cadet security watches onboard began almost immediately and will continue until the ship comes alive again with the arrival of the Cadet Officers and the new cadets on Sunday,2 January,2000. The rest of the compliment of cadets and staff will arrive on Monday, 3 January, move aboard, review the safety procedures, re-familarize themselves with the ship, and load the stores for the voyage across the Atlantic. Departure for the 2000 Sea Term is scheduled for 0955 on Saturday, 2000. The public is invited to watch as the ship departs, heading Eastbound under the Railroad bridge and the Bourne and Sagamore bridges out into Cape Cod Bay and on to Europe.
