MMA Cruise Update: 01/06/99

The preparation for Sea Term 99 continues to move swiftly along. The engineering systems are up and running, while the cadets continue to familiarize themselves with the Empire State. The day thus far has been given to loading food and supplies for 550 people, which [sigma]as you can imagine, is quite an undertaking.

This afternoon one of the critical pieces of training takes place when Captain Bushy conducts - lifeboat drills. This is mandatory for all hands and an integral part of life at sea.

As each day passes the anticipation of our Saturday departure becomes more evident. While there is clearly a major adjustment for our freshmen and upper class cadets who have not made Sea Term yet, you can watch them become more accustomed to life on board daily.

Keep in mind, there is no television, no video games, in short, none of the customary college perks are available. This is very definitely an adjustment. However, according to Captain Bushy, "I have been very pleased with how our cadet crew has responded to the challenge."
