BLIZZARD CONDITIONS WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. TOTAL STORM ACCUMULATION THROUGH NIGHTFALL OF 12 TO 18 INCHES. COASTAL FLOODING AT TIME OF HIGH TIDE. HIGH NEAR 35 BUT TEMPERATURES FALLING INTO THE UPPER 20S. A NORTHEAST WIND OF 35 TO 45 MPH WITH GUSTS TO 65 MPH TURNS NORTH.

TONIGHT:

VERY WINDY AND TURNING COLDER WITH SNOW TAPERING TO FLURRIES. LOW 15 TO 20. NORTH WIND 25 TO 35 MPH WITH HIGHER GUSTS THEN DIMINISHING LATE.

NO ONE SHOULD VENTURE OUT OF DOORS:

ESPECIALLY ALONG THE COAST...UNTIL AT LEAST THIS AFTERNOON WHEN THE WORST OF THIS STORM WILL HAVE ALREADY OCCURRED. A BLIZZARD WARNING CONTINUES FOR ALL OF THE SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND COAST WITH THE EXCEPTION OF NANTUCKET WHERE WINTER STORM AND HIGH WIND WARNINGS WERE IN EFFECT. WINDS WILL BRIEFLY GUST BETWEEN 55 AND 65 MPH THIS MORNING ALONG THE RHODE ISLAND AND MASSACHUSETTS COAST AND TO BETWEEN 35 AND 45 MPH INLAND WITH SNOWFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR THROUGH MIDDAY OVER MUCH OF THE REGION.

ON NANTUCKET:

SLEET AND RAIN WILL LIMIT THE DRIFTING THIS MORNING. SLEET OR RAIN WILL MIX WITH THE SNOW AT TIMES ELSEWHERE IN SOUTHEAST AND COASTAL MASSACHUSETTS BUT NOT SIGNIFICANTLY LIMIT ACCUMULATIONS. THE WIND WILL CAUSE SEVERE BLOWING AND DRIFTING ALONG THE COAST WITH DRIFTS TO 5 FEET POSSIBLE BY NOON FROM BOSTON TO CAPE COD AND WEST TO NEW BEDFORD. THE WEIGHT OF THE SNOW AND LIGHTNING STRIKES MAY CAUSE POWER OUTAGES IN A FEW LOCATIONS.

ALREADY:

10 TO 19 INCHES OF SNOW HAS FALLEN IN CONNECTICUT...RHODE ISLAND AND MOST OF MASSACHUSETTS SOUTH OF THE MASS TURNPIKE. VERY HEAVY SNOW WILL ADD ANOTHER 8 TO 10 INCHES TODAY...WITH ISOLATED AMOUNTS NEAR 30 INCHES SOMEWHERE IN THE BOSTON...PLYMOUTH...NEW BEDFORD AREA OF MASSACHUSETTS. TIDES WERE 2 TO 2.5 FEET ABOVE NORMAL AT 730 AM AND SHOULD CONTINUE INCREASING THEIR DEPARTURE TO AT LEAST 3 FEET BY NOON. THIS SIGNIFICANT SURGE COMBINED WITH 20 FOOT WAVES WILL CAUSE SOME FLOODING ALONG THE MASSACHUSETTS COAST.
