The training ship Patriot State remains berthed at Pier#22 Passenger Terminal - Port Everglades, Florida. The sky conditions are overcast. The temperature is 70 degrees... and the wind is out of the east at 15 knots.

Captain's Log:

When we arrived in Florida two days ago you could hear the collective sigh of relief in New Jersey. Home, at last. Well, I can assure you, that two days later the happiness of our Florida arrival has not dissipated one bit. After all, not only are the cadets back home in the Unites States, they're also right in the middle of spring break heaven - Fort Lauderdale!

I am happy for them; they have worked long and hard during our Sea Term. They faced down diversity with dignity. Endured the loss of a beloved professor. And clearly demonstrated the necessary skills that make a Massachusetts Maritime Academy grad sought after in a very competitive job market.

Speaking of jobs ...we once again conducted a very successful job fair on board. Eager employers from across the country stopped by the Patriot State in an effort to lure an upcoming graduate to his or her company. The job fair, a success in the past, seems to get bigger with each passing year. Hats off to our venerable Placement Director - Captain Al Wilson - who, during his illustrious career here at MMA, has put more people to work than Franklin Roosevelt.

We also held a terrific alumni reception ...and again, this event also seems to grow each year. It is always great to renew acquaintances with old shipmates ...and to witness their dedication and love for the academy. I believe our cadets pick up on this, and are likely, as a result, to be more involved in alumni activities upon graduation.

One more day here in cadet paradise. Tomorrow morning at 0800 the Patriot State begins her journey home. We will dock in Buzzards Bay next Sunday the 22nd (we will keep you posted on the exact time) It has been a memorable Sea Term, and during the journey home I will attempt to recap some of cruise highlights for you.
